- Deciduous shrub, to 12 ft (4 m) tall, spreading and open. Leaves alternate, simple, oval-oblong, elliptic, 3-7 cm long, green and coarse-bullate (impressed veins) above, gray-green and pubescent below. Flowers white with red, very abundant (May-June). Fruit light red, globose, 7-8 mm, in dense clusters, 4-5 seeds per fruit.
