- Hardy to USDA Zone 4 Golden NuggetTM and SunsationTM are siblings that were selected from a group of 50–100 seedlings around 1977. The seedlings were from an uncontrolled cross believed to be Berberis thunbergii ‘Aurea’ crossed with Berberis thunbergii ‘Kobold’.
