Ajuga, Carpet Bugle, Bugle Weed a-JEW-ga REP-tanz
- Herbaceous perennial, ground cover, 6-8 inches (15-20 cm), spreading by runners, can form a dense mat. Leaves 10-13 cm x 2.5-5 cm, obovate with a slightly wavy margin, color varies with cultivar. Flowers small, blue, pink or white, on 10-20 cm pyramidal spikes, blooms in mid-spring.
- Sun to part shade, growth is rapid in moist soil. It is susceptible to Verticilium wilt, so it works best to plant it with other low growing ground covers of similar competitive ability such as wild strawberry, etc.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 4 Native to Europe.
- Both green and bronze or purple leaved cultivars (some of the latter include 'Burgundy Glow', 'Rubra' and 'Bronze Ripple').
