Kolomikta Actinidia               ak-ti-NID-e-a ko-lo-MIK-ta

• Deciduous vine, to 15-20 ft (4.5-6 m) high.  Leaves alternate, simple, broad-ovate, 7.5-15 x 3.5-10 cm, cordate, serrated, purplish when young, developing to pink and white.  Dioecious, i.e., male and female plants, male plants reportedly have better variegations.   Male flowers small, 12 mm across, white with yellow stamens. Fruit is greenish-yellow, oblong-ovoid, 2.5 cm long, edible.
• Sun to part shade.  Excessive fertilization and shade reduces leaf coloration.  Attractive to cats, in a manner similar to that of Nepeta (Catnip), protect young plants from their attention.
• Hardy to USDA Zone (3)4      Native to northeastern Asia to Japan, central and western China.
