Nematodes and Related Diseases

Studies have been conducted in nematode infested fields at the Klamath Experiment Station and in several commercial growers' fields over several years. Several aspects of this research are summarized in the form of abstracts of papers presented at Annual Meetings of the Potato Association of America.

Cultural Managment

A major focus of Klamath Experiment Station potato research is evaluation of cultural management practices to optimize performance of standard varieties and promising advanced breeding selections. Recent Studies have included: Varietal response to plant population and nitrogen fertilizer rates; Russet Burbank response to N, P, K, and S rates; evaluation of post emergence herbicides; response to foliar applied methanol, and several aspects of seed management. The following abstracts summarize a portion of this research.

Variety Selection and Development

Potato variety development for the Pacific Northwest is a well coordinated effort involving significant contributions from numerous researchers in several states. The philosophy of the variety development program is presented in the Forward of a publication from Oregon State University and University of California, Davis, Agricultural Experiment Stations. A sample profile for the Oregon release, Century Russet, included in this publication is also presented.
