Plateful of Prevention: Meals and Movement for Better Health

Plateful of Prevention uses a platform of disease prevention to interest and motivate limited resource participants to make healthy diet and physical activity choices. The overarching goal is to reduce risk of chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and obesity.

The curriculum is designed to be intereactive and learner centered employing such techniques as group sharing, self evaluation, stories, exploring ambivelance to change and demonstrations. 

Plateful of Prevention is currently under review for use with SNAP-Ed adult audiences.

Lesson Objectives
Participants will:

  • Understand how food and activity choices can improve health and potentially prevent chronic diseases.
  • Increase physical activity.
  • Improve ability to balance calorie intake with expenditure.
  • Use tools including food labels, food groups, dietary guidelines, portions and plate when shopping for food and planning meals.
  • Incorporate healthy recipes and food preparation into their meal plans.
  • Set goals for behavior change.
