The conference theme reflects a long-term interest in the social, behavioral and biological sciences, and among marketers and policymakers: the relationship of individual behavior to the aggregate consequences of that behavior. When a single fishing vessel increases its harvest, the effects on future harvests and the relevant ecosystem may be of little consequence. Spreading such a response to all vessels in a fleet, however, may yield different results. The same is true for individual consumer decisions, actions of an individual fish, and the sales decisions of individual firms. Industry leaders, prominent scholars, and policymakers will provide insights on the individual choice-cumulative results interface from their own perspectives, while also focusing on cross-disciplinary exploration. How can these insights and perspectives enrich understanding of human behavior and its effect on fisheries? How can they generate new approaches to empirical research? |
