Poverty Profile in a Mexican Fishing Village Through
Participatory Techniques.

ABSTRACT
Participatory rural apparisal and rapid rural appaisal were the methods used to build a poverty profile in a fishing community on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. The research was conducted in November 1999. Among the topics studied though these methodologies are health, education, food security, seasonality of labour, income and resource, institutional issues, market and credit. It was concluded that this methodologies provide a useful set of tools to ensure the participation of fishermen in development activities and poverty alleviation programs.
