Deadlines

Early round deadline: November 1
Applicants will be sent a UHC admission decision letter in the mail by December 31.

Primary round deadline: February 1
Applicants will be sent a UHC admission decision letter in the mail by March 31.

All applications must be submitted online by midnight on the day of the deadline.

Minimum Criteria

First-Year Students (entering from high school) minimum criteria:

  • 3.75 cumulative un-weighted high school GPA OR
  • 1820 on the SAT OR
  • 27 on the ACT

Transfer/Current OSU Student minimum criteria:

  • Transfer college cumulative 3.25 GPA OR
  • OSU cumulative 3.25 GPA

Application Checklist

  1. Submit your OSU admission application and all required materials (contact the OSU Office of Admissions for more information).
  2. Make sure you meet the minimum UHC application criteria.
  3. Apply to the UHC:
    • Complete the UHC online application form.
    • Provide written responses to both UHC essay questions (200-250 words each).
    • Submit a list of Extracurricular Activities, Leadership Positions, and Awards. (Note: This information is required on the Scholarship Application portion of your OSU application.)
    • Make sure OSU Admissions receives official transcripts and SAT/ACT test scores (first-year students only)
    • Optional: If there are additional circumstances or experiences you feel might provide insight into your potential, please explain in your own words in a single page or less.
    • Answer the UHC scholarship questions (first year applicants only) All admitted students will have the chance to be considered for UHC scholarships. First year applicants need only to  fill out the additional UHC scholarship questions on our UHC application. Students applying to the UHC while currently attending OSU or transferring to OSU from another college or university will be invited to apply for UHC scholarships if admitted.

Selection Process

Though similar, the selection process for UHC admissions is separate and distinct from selections for OSU scholarships. Due to enrollment constraints, UHC selections are extremely competitive. While many applicants will meet the minimum criteria for UHC admission, not everyone will be selected.

Selection criteria for incoming first-year students is based on cumulative un-weighted high school GPA, SAT or ACT scores, and responses to essay questions. The essay responses are weighed on an even scale with GPA and test scores, so special consideration should be given to this component of the application. The strength of courses taken in high school and personal or academic attributes that will enrich the Honors community may also be considered.

For college transfers or current OSU students, selection criteria are based upon the applicant's college GPA and their essay responses. Personal or academic attributes that will enrich the Honors community are also considered.

Note: Essay questions are updated each year, so be sure to contact the UHC Office for the current questions or visit the on-line UHC application.

Fees

  • There is no fee to apply to the University Honors College.
  • Once admitted students pay a differential tuition fee each term. The differential tuition for the UHC is currently $290 per term. If you expect to be off campus for one or more terms, this fee can be waived. Contact the UHC office for more information on this process.
