I was born in Calcutta, India and raised in Salem, Oregon. I graduated from Sprague High School in 2003, where I played soccer and put off college consideration until my senior year. After attending community college for one year, I transferred to Oregon State, where I’m currently a fifth year undergraduate student. I’m a microbiologist who’s also pursuing a Honors degree, in addition to minors in Chemistry and English Literature. My goal is to attend medical school once my studies at Oregon State are completed.

OSU has provided many opportunities and with this year being my last, I look back fondly on the doors that Oregon State has opened. I’ve participated in a biomedical internship, conducted nutritional research, established vital relationships with well-founded scientists, and have grown tremendously as an individual. Despite all that progress, I’m still working feverishly toward medical school and obtaining further medical experience. But my position allows me to look ahead, to possible post-baccalaureate internships, volunteering abroad, or perhaps an actual job. The latter of which, means a sustainable income, something college may not immediately provide.

Beyond academics, college life provides a wealth of activities, people, and memories. As a result, I have an extremely flexible schedule that allows me to attend classes and study, work weekends, while finding time to snowboard and hang out in my precious free time.

It has been a long, intrepid journey to get where I am today, and my personal growth as an individual has been far greater than the distance from between public school in Salem and OSU. Nonetheless, the education, experience, and people I’ve met here can’t enumerate the opportunities I’ve created and possibilities I may now realize.
