Dean
& Friends Hour:

The Dean
and Friends Hour is an opportunity to provide an informal setting for UHC
students to get to know and interact with the UHC Dean and some of his friends
who have unique or interesting perspectives on the world.

This series of conversations have been recorded to allow
those interested to listen.

October - The 2008 General Election

The first event of Fall term was held on Tuesday October 14th from noon to 1pm in SLUG 2 (Strand 32). Dean Arp and OSU
Director of Government Relations, Jock Mills discussed various
state initiatives, at the state
level.

Here
are some questions about each Oregon Ballot Measure that formed the basis for
our conversation.

- Preparing for and Applying to Graduate/Professional Schools

On Tuesday, November 18^th Dean Arp and Dean Cyril
Clarke, with the College of Veterinary Medicine met for coffee and conversation
about preparing for and applying to graduate and professional schools.
The conversation discussed the application process, what programs are looking
for and how best to prepare yourself.

January - The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)
Summer Research Program

Wednesday, January 21^st Dean Arp and Dr. Kevin Ahern, Director of
the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Research Program, met for a light
lunch and conversation about the HHMI Summer Research Program. The
discussion centered around the application process and the valuable experience
gained in a laboratory setting.
