The most recent Irma Delson Bridge to the Future Fund award was split between two equally deserving graduate students. Both students, one in fisheries science and the other in marine resource management, had completely exhausted their finances just a few months before they were due to complete their master's degrees. Sharing the $500 grant helped keep them in their programs. One student completed his degree in winter term, and the other is on track to finish hers this summer.
Many students deplete their funding in the final phase of their graduate programs, and face the prospect of leaving school for lack of a few months' living expenses. Through the contributions of faculty, alumni, and other benefactors, the Graduate School has built the Irma Delson Bridge to the Future Fund, to provide small emergency grants for the most compelling of these cases.
