Oregon State University will award Oregon Lottery Scholarship funds in accordance with guidelines established by the 2005 Lottery Legislation, and in accordance with the guidelines and intent of the Oregon University System and Oregon State University. Awards will be administered by the Graduate School.
Eligibility Criteria : Qualified students who are regularly admitted and in good standing in graduate or post-baccalaureate professional degree programs, including eligible students at OSU Cascades campus, may be considered for scholarship awards. All nominees are expected to have meritorious records. Once the nomination pool is established, one half of program funds will be awarded on the basis of merit only and one half will be awarded on the basis of merit and need. All eligible students, international and domestic, may be considered in the merit-only pool. Domestic students also may be considered on the basis of merit and need only by completing and filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and qualifying for financial assistance.
Scholarship Award Levels: Award amounts are variable but normally will not be more than $5,000 per year. Awards typically are for up to one year and are non-renewable. An award recipient may be eligible for re-nomination in subsequent years if otherwise academically qualified.
Nomination Process: Nominations for awards must be submitted to the Graduate School by the chair, head, or dean of the program in which the student is enrolled. Students are not to apply directly for scholarships. Departments are encouraged to nominate underrepresented students of color and women admitted to a program in which such underrepresentation exists.
Nominations Materials: All nominations must include 1) a nominating letter from the department chair or head; 2) two additional letters of recommendation; 3) student resume or curriculum vita; 4) transcripts; and 5) GRE or other relevant test scores, if available. Departments submitting more than one nominee are asked to provide a rank ordering to assist us in the review process. Please limit your nominations tono more than 3 per department.
Nomination Deadline: Complete nominations for 2008-09 must be received in the Graduate School no later than Friday, March 21, 2008.
Selection Process: Members of the Graduate Council Scholarship Selection Committee will be asked to review and rate all nominees and make recommendations to the Graduate Dean for awards decisions. Particular consideration will be given to nominations from departments that provide the nominee with a concurrent graduate assistantship.
Approximately one-half of the available funds will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, and approximately one-half on the basis of financial need and merit.
"Academic merit" is determined by acceptance into a recognized OSU graduate or post-baccalaureate professional program, and by a record of scholarly achievement as demonstrated by grade point average, test scores on nationally recognized admissions tests, letters of recommendation, or other evidence of scholarly or creative activity.
"Need" will be determined in accordance with the federal guidelines established pursuant to the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended. Only domestic students who have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the coming academic year and have a demonstrated financial need will be considered under this category. Otherwise, they will be considered in the merit-only category.
