ANNOUNCEMENT DATE: OCT. 2, 2007
The Graduate School administers an endowment fund created to honor Irma Delson, who dedicated her many years at OSU to serving students from all over the world. The Delson Bridge to the Future Fund is designed to assist students in the final phase of their graduate education to pay research expenses, publication costs, and other incidentals that stand in the way of completing their studies.
ELIGIBILITY & AWARD GUIDELINES
Graduate programs that become aware of emergency situations involving students at the end of their programs may submit requests for limited assistance to offset financial difficulties and promote degree completion.
Master’s and doctoral students in the final phase of their graduate programs may be eligible for this award. Resident, nonresident, and international graduate students will be given equal consideration. Requests may include only students who have an extenuating financial emergency that would result in their attrition.
Awards will be made on a one-time only basis normally during a student’s final term in the graduate program, and are intended to help pay the cost of completion to finish the advanced degree. Awards up to $500 per recipient may be made.
PROCEDURE
Students may not apply directly for financial assistance under this program. Departments and programs may submit nominations to the Graduate Schoolon behalf of graduate students who are facing a critical financial emergency that could impede degree completion. Departments and programs are asked to make requests for only the most compelling circumstances.
Written nominations may originate with either the student’s major professor or the department head/chair or graduate program director. All requests must carry the written endorsement of the department head/chair or graduate program director. The Graduate School expects to fund no more than one student from a given department or program per term. Departments presenting more than one case must rank order their requests.
