Bayley Graduate Fellowship


ANTICIPATED RELEASE DATE FOR PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT: JANUARY 9, 2008

The Graduate School invites nominations for the Bayley Graduate Fellowship which will be awarded to a graduate student who will be enrolled in an advanced degree program at Oregon State University for Fall term 2008. Awards for less than an academic year will be prorated.

The Bayley Fellowship will provide funds of approximately $4,500 for the 2008-09 academic year. Final award distribution will be dependent upon actual endowment earnings. The fellowship will be awarded on the basis of academic performance and promise for the future.

This award may be given in addition to a graduate teaching or research assistantship. Domestic and international students are eligible for nomination.

Nominations may be submitted by the student's academic program coordinator or department chair/head, or by the dean of the program in which the student is enrolled. Students may not apply directly for this award.

There are no special application forms. However, each nomination must include:
  1. A nominating letter from the department chair/head, academic program coordinator, or dean of the program in which the student is enrolled.
  2. Two additional letters of recommendation.
  3. A statement of the student's academic goals.
  4. A résumé or curriculum vita
  5. A transcript of all post-high school academic work (not required of students currently enrolled at Oregon State University but must be supplied for incoming students.)

Evaluation of nominations will be based upon academic merit as demonstrated by:

  • Academic & professional strengths articulated in letters of nomination and recommendation
  • Clarity of direction articulated in student's statement of interest
  • GPA in current grad program
  • Timely progress toward degree completion
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Grants awarded
  • Publications record (first, second author, etc.)
  • Presentations
  • Professional organization involvement

Departments may submit only one nomination. Nominations must be received by the Graduate School by February 1, 2008. Recipients will be announced by March 1, 2008.
