Water Resources Graduate Program

The OSU faculty includes one of the country's strongest collections of water resources specialists. They span six colleges and a dozen different departments. But until this year, there was no water-related degree in our catalogue. In fall of 2004, OSU launched a new Water Resources Graduate Program, offering five different degrees. The program is organized into three areas: Water Resources Engineering (M.S. and PhD), Water Resources Science (M.S. and PhD) and Water Resources Policy and Management (M.S.). More…

Master of Arts in Contemporary Hispanic Studies

With the rapid growth of Spanish-speaking populations in Oregon and throughout the country, priorities for language education programs are changing. It's not enough for graduates to speak fluently and be skilled in literary criticism. The diversity of the working world demands a broad understanding of the issues that shape intercultural communication within and beyond the Spanish-speaking community.

OSU's new Master of Arts in Contemporary Hispanic Studies responds to this demand. The degree was designed to support new national foreign language teaching standards which emphasize community-oriented learning and a broad, interdisciplinary curriculum. In addition to a core of language, literature, and Hispanic cultural studies, students will complete a minor in intercultural studies and a research internship in community service. Master of Business and Engineering in Construction Engineering Management

The construction industry is a significant segment of Oregon's economy. Highly competitive, the businesses within the industry have created a strong demand for university-educated managers. Traditionally, most managers come from a civil engineering or construction engineering degree background. Now, a new OSU master's program will combine critical business skills with training in advanced construction management, to prepare students for top positions in industry, regulatory agencies, consulting firms, and municipalities.

The Master of Business and Engineering in Construction Engineering Management will open management-level educational opportunities to people already working in the field, as well as students new to the construction industry. More…

PhD in Applied Anthropology

OSU's new PhD in Applied Anthropology gives students the combination of theoretical and practical tools they need as analysts and brokers of social change. They'll develop the theoretical framework and methods for anthropological analysis and interpretation. But they will also build skills in such areas as business, communication, public health, and education, to apply their anthropological knowledge to contemporary issues and public affairs. More…

Graduate Certificate Program in Sustainable Natural Resources

Around the world, in every area of natural resource management, there is a growing demand for sustainable practices. But the concept of sustainability is as complex as the countless situations where natural resource management must occur. Sustainability is generally defined as "meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." When applied to natural resource management, this concept can stir up a complicated mix of economic, social, and ecological issues.

This complexity is what inspired the creation of OSU's new Graduate Certificate Program in Sustainable Natural Resources. The program, the first of its kind in the nation, is designed for mid-career company, industry or agency employees. It will help them develop the skills to reach beyond their own disciplines, and bring a broad range of technical and problem-solving approaches to natural resource concerns. More…

The field of health care administration is defined by continuous environmental change and the need to effectively respond to the demands of payers, providers, patients, regulatory bodies, and many others. OSU Extended Campus has teamed up with the OSU Department of Public Health and the College of Health and Human Sciences to offer a Graduate Certificate in Health Care Administration.
