Fellowships/scholarships for minorities:
- American Indian Graduate Center - Graduate fellowships for American Indian and Alaskan native students from federally recognized U.S. tribes. Eligible candidate must be pursing a master's or doctoral degree as a full time student and have demonstrated financial need.
- American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) - A national, nonprofit organization, AISES nurtures the building of community by bridging science and technology with traditional Native values. Offers scholarships in the following disciplines: science, engineering, and technology areas.

- Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellowships for Minorities - The Ford Foundation offers 60 predoctoral and 35 dissertation fellowships to US citizens or nationals planning a career in teaching or research at the college/university level. Provides individuals the opportunity to complete the dissertation required for a PhD or a ScD degree. Open to citizens or nationals of the U.S. who are members of the following groups: Alaskan Natives (Eskimo or Aleut), Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, Native American Indians, Native Pacific Islanders (Polynesian/Micronesian) and Puerto Ricans.
- NASA/Harriet G. Jenkins Predoctoral Fellowship Program - The mission of the JPFP is to increase the number of women, minorities, and disabled persons participating in the math, science, engineering, and technology (MSET) disciplines in the workforce.
- National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc - offers opportunities for underrepresented minority students to obtain MS degrees in engineering and Ph.D. degrees in engineering and the natural and physical sciences through a program of paid summer internships and graduate financial assistance.
- Robert T. Watkins Minority Graduate Fellowship - American Society for Microbiology. Eligible candidate must be formally admitted and successfully completed the first year as a doctoral candidate in the microbiological sciences, a member of an underrepresented minority group in the sciences, a US citizen or hold a permanent Visa, a student member of ASM and mentored by an ASM member.
- Saludos.com - a web site devoted to promoting Hispanic careers and education, supported by Saludos Hispanos magazine.
- Semiconductor Research Corporation Master's Scholarship Program - are for women or under-represented minorities. Must be pursing/planning to pursue Master's degree in a discipline relevant to microelectronics under the guidance of an SRC-designated faculty member.
- Spectrum Scholarship Application 2001 - The American Library Association Spectrum Scholarship provides $5,000 scholarships to American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander students for graduate programs in library and information science.
- The United Negro College Fund - Offers a variety of scholarships in a wide range of fields.
Fellowships/scholarships for women:
Fellowships/scholarships for International Students:
- Semiconductor Research Corporation International Graduate Fellowship – is open to students who hold citizenship in a country other than the US, Canada, or countries defined by the US government as "export controlled or embargoed countries" (see SRC User Agreement); meet the high academic standard set for all SRC Fellows; are pursuing, or planning to pursue, a PhD degree with research relevant to microelectronics under the guidance of an SRC-sponsored faculty member; will be performing research defined in an SRC-funded contract; are willing to provide a copy of his/her PhD dissertation to SRC. It is expected that IGFP Fellows will complete their PhD in an area relevant to microelectronics and that upon completion of the program, will secure employment with an SRC member company or a faculty position in an accredited four-year college or university.
- World Bank - The World Bank provides funding for graduate students from developing nations in the following areas: economics, public administration, finance, planning, health, population, agriculture, infrastructure, information systems and aquatic resources (provided that the focus of study is on public policy aspects of these fields), environment and natural resource management, education, and other development-related subjects. Funding is mainly for the first year of a master's degree with an extension for the second year. Students should come on a J visa and are subjected to 212(e).

Amelia Earhart Fellowship Awards - $6,000 annual grants for women in aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering.
NASA - NASA's Education Division Graduate Student Researchers Program is designed to help meet the continuing needs of the aeronautics and space effort by increasing the number of highly trained scientists and engineers in aerospace, space science, space applications and space technology. Beyond the Graduate Student Researchers Program, NASA also offers internships, co-op programs, and fellowships.
National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowships - The Department of Defense plans to award approximately 200 new three-year graduate fellowships (stipend, tuition, and fees) each year for study and research leading to doctoral degrees in disciplines of science and engineering of military importance.

Howard Hughes Medical Institutes Fellowship Programs - offers fellowship and research opportunities for medical and biological science students.
- Education
Spencer Foundation Dissertation Fellowships - for research related to education. About thirty fellowships are awarded each year by the Spencer Foundation to support doctoral candidates in a variety of fields whose dissertations promise to contribute fresh perspectives to the history, theory, of practice formal or informal education. Student may be in any academic discipline and must be doctoral candidate at US school, but need not be US citizen.

Fannie and John Hertz Foundation - supports graduate students working towards the Ph.D. degree in the fields of applied physics, applied chemistry, applied mathematics, applied modern biology and all areas of engineering.

Applicants must be US citizens/nationals/permanent residents.
Semiconductor Research Corporation Graduate Fellowship- Open to students who: are US or Canadian citizens or have permanent resident status; are pursuing or planning to pursue a Ph.D. degree with research relevant to microelectronics under the guidance of an SRC-sponsored faculty member; will be performing research under an SRC-funded contract; are willing to provide a copy of his/her Ph.D. dissertation to the SRC. It is expected, although not required, that fellows will complete the Ph.D. in an area relevant to microelectronics and that upon completion of the program, will secure employment with an SRC member or US government agency, or a faculty position in an accredited four-year US or Canadian college or university.
- Environmental/Energy/Power
American Public Power Association - awards ten $4,000 scholarships each year as part of its DEED (Demonstration of Energy-Efficient Developments) Program. Deadline: January 15th and July 15th (each year). DEED also awards one $5000 Technical Design Project each year, which is intended to promote the involvement of students studying in energy related disciplines. The award recipient(s) also receive funding up to $3000 for travel expenses to present their project during the annual APPA Engineering and Operations Technical Conference. Deadline: October 15 (each year).
Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF): - This fellowship is for undergraduate seniors or first or second year graduate students planning full-time study toward a PhD. in the physical, engineering, computer, mathematical, or life sciences. Recipients receive payments of all tuition and required fees for up to 4 years of study, $28000 yearly stipend, matching funds for a computer workstation up to $2500, yearly academic allowance of $1000, yearly conferences, and opportunity to complete a practicum at a national DOE laboratory. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent resident aliens.
Department of Energy High Performance Computer Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE-HPCS): - This fellowship is for undergraduate seniors or first or second year graduate students planning full-time study toward a PhD. in computer science with an emphasis on high-performance computing. Recipients receive payments of all tuition and required fees for up to 4 years of study, $28,800 yearly stipend, workstation allowance, yearly academic allowance of $1000, and the opportunity to complete a practicum at a national DOE laboratory. Applicants must be US citizens.
The Link Foundation - The Link Foundation is offering the Energy Fellowship Program to foster energy research; to enhance both the theoretical and practical knowledge and application of energy research; and to disseminate the results of that research through lectures, seminars and publications. On the basis of an application to the Foundation in the form of a research proposal, awards will be made to doctoral students in academic institutions. Preference will be given to candidates who have a well-defined thesis direction but who still have enough time remaining working toward their Ph.D. that receipt of a Link Foundation Fellowship could make a difference.
Morris K. Udall Foundation - is offering the Morris K. Udall Scholarship & Excellence in National Environmental Policy Dissertation Fellowships.
National Center for Environmental Research and Quality Assurance - offers a variety of funding opportunities in the area of environmental study.
Office of Naval Reactors, Naval Nuclear Propulsion – to assist in preparing students for roles in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program and will support the broader objective of advancing fission energy development through the research efforts of the fellow.
U.S. Department of Energy - The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Biological and Environmental Research offers the Global Change Education Program (GCEP). GCEP provides Graduate Research Environmental Fellowships as well as opportunities in the field of Atmospheric Research and Science.
U.S. Department of Energy Nuclear Engineering & Radiation Health Physics Fellowship and Scholarship Programs – Program designed to assist in preparing students for leadership roles in fission technology and to support the broader objective of improving fission energy through higher education and research efforts.
- Ethics/Religion
Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships - Fellowships designed to encourage original and significant study of ethical or religious values in all fields of the humanities and social sciences. In addition, to topics in religious studies or in ethics, dissertations might consider the ethical implications of foreign policy, the values influencing political decisions, the moral codes of other cultures, and religious or ethical issues reflected in history or literature. Applicants must be candidates for Ph.D. or Th.D. degrees in doctoral programs at graduate schools in the U.S. These awards are made to Ph.D. candidates who are in the writing stage of the dissertation.

Kaiser Media Fellowships in Health - Offers fellowships to print, television, and radio journalists interested in health policy, health financing and public health.
Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Grants in Women’s Health – encourages original and significant research on issues related to women’s health by doctoral students in nursing, public health, anthropology, history, sociology, psychology, and social work.

American Music Center - awards over 80 grants supporting the premieres of new American works.
Andrew Mellon Foundation - The Andrew W. Mellon Fellowships in Humanistic are designed to support exceptionally promising students as they pursue advanced study in the disciplines of the humanities. The Mellon Fellowship is a competitive award for first-year doctoral students only and cannot be deferred. Each year, approximately 85 fellowships are available. The fellowship covers full graduate tuition and required fees for the first year of graduate study and includes a one-year stipend of $17,500.
Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) - MUN offers a graduate teaching fellowship program in the Arts for students beginning doctoral programs at Memorial University of Newfoundland in the fall semester. National Endowment for the Humanities – provides grants for students in the humanities programs.
Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program - The fellowship program strives to provide young American professionals (23-34) with executive level internships in the federal government and private sectors in Germany. Candidates are competitively chosen from the fields of business administration, economics, journalism and mass communications, law, political science and public affairs/public policy.
Social Science Research Council International Dissertation Field Research Fellowship - designed to support graduate students in the humanities and social sciences conducting dissertation field research in all areas and regions of the world. Fifty fellowships of up to $20,000 will be awarded in the year 2005 with funds provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Mark O. Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) - HMSC is a research and educational institution that promotes the wise use of the ocean and coastal environments. HMSC offers a variety of funding opportunities for students in the field of marine sciences.
Knauss Marine Policy Fellowships - provides a unique educational experience to students enrolled in graduate programs in fields related to marine or Great Lakes studies. The program matches highly qualified graduate students with hosts in the legislative branch, the executive branch, or appropriate associations and institutions located in the Washington, D.C. area. Recipients spend one year working on substantive national policy issues related to marine issues. The Fellowship is open to any student who is in a graduate or professional program in a marine or aquatic-related field at a United States accredited institution of higher education.

- Canon National Parks Science Scholars Program - Scholarship program for doctoral students in biological, physical, social, and cultural sciences, as well as projects in technology innovation in support of conservation science.
- Cornell University Graduate School Fellowship Notebook - Offers a database of diverse fellowships.
- Dan David Prize – Scholarships of $15,000 each to outstanding doctoral students from universities all over the world. In addition, 10 scholarships of $15,000 each are awarded to outstanding doctoral students from Tel Aviv University.
- David L. Boren Graduate Fellowships - supports students pursuing the study of languages, cultures, and world regions that are critical to U.S. national security in areas other than Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The National Security Education Program encourages and supports applications from a wide range of fields of study.
- EPA P3 Award – A National student design competition for sustainability to respond to the scientific and technical needs of the developing and developed world in moving toward sustainability.
- Fulbright Grants - The U.S. Student Program is designed to give recent B.S./B.A. graduates, master’s and doctoral candidates, and developing professionals and artists opportunities for personal development and international experience. Most grantees plan their own programs. Projects may include university coursework, independent library or field research, classes in a music conservatory or art school, special projects in the social or life sciences, or a combination. - Getty Research Grants - Offers many opportunities and research grants.
- International Research and Exchanges Board - A variety of programs including grants for master's students to conduct policy-relevant research in Euriope and Eurasia and grants for predoctoral candidates to conduct policy-relevant dissertation research in Europe and Eurasia.
- National Urban Fellows - A graduate fellowship that offers a unique learning experience: a fourteen month academic program combined with a practical "hands-on" nine-month mentorship with a senior level executive (Governors, Mayors, CEOs) in the public or private sector--Master's in Public Administration, CUNY Baruch.
- The Newberry Library - Residential Fellowships at the Newberry Library provide assistance to researchers who wish to use the collections. Short-term fellowships for postdoctoral researchers or doctoral candidates from outside of the Chicago area who have a specific need for Newberry collections. The tenure of short-term fellowships varies from one week to two months unless otherwise noted under the award description (a majority of fellowships are one month or less). A variety of long-term, short-term and special fellowships exist as well.
- Oregon Student Assistance Commission (OSAC) - administers a variety of State of Oregon, Federal, and privately funded student financial aid programs for the benefit of Oregonians attending institutions of postsecondary education.
