The department currently participates in three Masters-level degree programs.
The MAT in foreign language education is an intensive, one-year program leading to a license to teach French, German, or Spanish in Oregon high schools. In addition to the requirements stipulated by the Graduate School and the School of Education for admission, successful applicants to the Foreign Language MAT program must have proficiency in French, German or Spanish at the Advanced-Low level or higher as measured by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL). New cohorts begin course work in June of each year.

The MAIS is an interdisciplinary degree that offers students their choice of three separate areas of study. Many students have successfully integrated language and culture study in French, German or Spanish with other fields such as adult education or public health. The MA in Contemporary Hispanic Studies began accepting students in the fall of 2006. The program is unique among Oregon graduate offerings in that it is not focused on traditional activities such as literary criticism or linguistic analysis, but rather on a set of courses and field experiences that will help students address real-life issues in intercultural communication in a state with a rapidly increasing Latino population.
