Advising

In addition to notifying the Registrar's office, all language majors, minors, and certificate students must notify the department of their degree plans and meet with one of the advisors listed below.

Most majors in French, German, and Spanish B.A. programs will need to meet with two advisors each year. The language program advisors are responsible for assisting majors with language courses. The head advisor for the department, Brenda McCullough is responsible for approving each student's CLA and Baccalaureate Core courses. Majors must meet with both advisors by the end of spring quarter in order to receive a registration PIN for the following academic year

Because there are many special requirements involved, Education Double Degree students seeking endorsements in Spanish, French or German must contact content mastery liaison Juan Antonio Trujillo beginning early in their language program.

Be sure that your meetings with advisors are documented in your official department file, especially when study abroad work or course substitutions are involved. If your regular advisor is away from campus for some reason when the time comes for your graduation audit, we will need documentation of the decisions your advisor has made about your program.

Foreign Language placement tests for French, German, and Spanish are offered in the Foreign Language and Literatures office, 210 Kidder Hall, Monday through Thursday 8 am to 3 pm.  Contact the Foreign Language and Literatures office for information about placement tests for other Languages offered at OSU.
