1) All courses in FST, science and mathematics that are required for the major, including option requirements, must be passed on the A-F grading scale.
2) Within the Baccalaureate Core, writing courses that are specified by the Department of Food Science, namely WR 121 and WR 222/327 must be taken for a grade (A/F).
3) Any other courses, including Baccalaureate Core courses (except for those included in items 1 and 2 above), may be taken on an S/U graded basis, to the maximum allowable (36 credits) by the university.
Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average
To remain in good standing, and be eligible for graduation, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 for all OSU coursework .
To ensure you, and future employers, of your competence in this discipline, FST has the following additional grade requirement. The cumulative GPA for food and related science courses (all courses from item 1, above) must be at least 2.00 .
Note about repeated courses: Courses may be repeated once for grade replacement (OSU and FST GPA calculations). Only the second grade will be counted in the cumulative grade point average and toward university graduation requirements. Courses taken more than two times will appear on the academic record but not count in the cumulative grade point average. This rule, which became effective fall, 1997, is not retroactive.
More information on grades and grading policies may be found in the "Academic Regulations" (sections 17, 18, 19).
