Rolling out Sustainability, Collaboration and Efficiency

Keep your eyes out for the new Maintenance and Operations Bike Delivery team.  This week, Dylan made the first bike delivery, bringing valves for a plumbing job.  Staff will also be using bikes to get around campus to attend meetings.  Our goal is to reduce the number of cars/trucks on the road throughout the day, decrease fuel consumption, and to support sustainability efforts at OSU. 

This week, the Campus Operations’ Maintenance and Operations Team implemented a new bicycle delivery program to increase efficiency and support sustainability.  They purchased four used bicycles from Surplus Property and then took the bikes to Rec Sports to get the bikes tuned-up.  The bikes will be used for delivering small parts for service jobs.  In this photo, our student worker, Dylan makes the first small parts delivery in this program, bringing valves to a plumber to complete a plumbing job on campus.  The bikes will also be used by staff to get around campus for meetings.  As Work Coordination Center Manager, LeAnna Pitts explains, “Using the bikes will reduce the number of trucks and staff personal vehicles on the road, decrease our fuel consumption, and allow us to get small parts delivered more quickly.  Plus, decreasing our truck deliveries will help with traffic flow and pedestrian safety. Additionally, when staff uses the bikes for campus meetings, we won’t lose our personal vehicle parking spaces and then have to drive around looking for a new space.”
