Summer Ag Institute (SAI)

 

 

 

Get three (3) Graduate credits and learn how Agriculture can be used as the application context (theme) for teaching math, science, social studies, and English to enhance achievement of Education Reform Standards. SAI is a dynamic, educational, fun-packed week of learning about our nation's number ONE employer, Agriculture !

Course No: AED 518, 3 credits, Oregon State University

Who:   Oregon's Kindergarten through 12th grade teachers who have little or no background in agriculture.

What:   Experience agriculture first-hand with tours of processing    plants, farms, nurseries and businesses. University professors and Agriculture professionals teach hands-on labs & lectures. The highlight of the week is an overnight stay on a working farm or ranch. The days are packed full of activities in order to simulate the realities of agricultural life.

 

When: Session #1, June 23-28, 2013; Corvallis, OR   

        Session #2, July 14-19, 2013; La Grande, OR

Cost & Class Requirements: On-sight participation (5 nights and 6 days) for all SAI candidates; an over-night stay with a host farm family (1 of the 5 nights); $600.00 (NON-REFUNDABLE FEE after May 1st) payable to OAEF; develop a comprehensive lesson plan utilizing knowledge gained as a SAI participant.

While teachers only pay $600*, the total cost per student is approximatly $2,800, which includes about $1,000 for three graduate level credits at OSU.
