The Video/Speaking Room
The Video/Speaking Room is set up for conversation groups,
pronunciation work, and video recording and viewing.
In the speaking area, students meet with a conversation partner, usually
an American student or member of the Corvallis community, to practice
their speaking in a directed yet informal setting.
Videotapes are available on a wide range of subjects. The news on CNN is
recorded for playback at least three nights per week. Students enjoy
working with TOEFL and other skill-building videotapes, either
individually or in small groups. They can also watch videos from their
courses, such as ones on endangered species or the environment.
For those who want to get ready for a presentation by recording
themselves, a camcorder on a tripod is set up in the Video/Speaking
room. The room can be reserved for recording during open hours, as well.
The Communication Station is currently located in the Video/Speaking
room. This area is designed for students who want to do independent
work on their pronunciation. Partially funded by OSU's Technology
Resource Fee grants, the Communication Station offers videos, tapes, and
software (both Macintosh and Windows) for pronunciation work. Find out more.
