Traveling Technology Seminars

Have a technology seminar customized for your institution, with recommendations tailored to fit your students, faculty, and setup. Here's what we can offer:

Lab Setup

You will receive a detailed list of recommendations for hardware and software. We will visit your site for one or two days for a needs assessment, consulting with local technical support, teachers, students, and decision-makers.

We get you started by installing software and doing initial lab manager and teacher training over the course of four days.

Teacher Training

The following four-day sessions will teach you to

Use the Internet as a resource for teachers and students.

Select, customize, and effectively use software. We'll show you a number of programs as well as help you better use what you have now.

Start writing your own software.

Create web pages for classroom use.

Find and exploit computer resources for languages other than English.

In our one- to three-day sessions, you will

Learn to make effective use of one computer in a classroom (one-day workshop).

Create custom lessons with commercial software (one-day workshop).

Explore resources for using computers with children (two- to three-day workshop).

See what it takes to set up a website for your institution (three-day workshop).

Additional Options for Follow-up Training and Consultation

Distance learning

Become part of the ELI's mailing list of ELI teachers, trainers, and former and current training participants to get quick responses to current problems.

Be part of real-time electronic discussions. These can be text-only, text and audio, or text with audio and video, depending on the equipment you have available.

Refresh and update teacher expertise through online mini-courses two to four times per year.

Corvallis-based options

Visit the English Language Institute to observe classes and have special evening and weekend sessions.

Have a special program--from a few weeks to a whole term--that combines English language training in ELI classes and technology training workshops. This would work very well during the summer, when teachers could stay on for the two-week Technology Seminar at the end of summer term.

Enroll in the ELI Technology Seminar for two weeks in August.

Cost

The actual cost depends on the options you choose and the cost of travel and lodging. The basic price for sessions at your site (not including travel) is $1,500 per day or $5,000 for a four-day session. For twenty teachers, that comes out to only $250 per person for four full days of hands-on training. We'll be happy to provide detailed cost information based on the options you want.
