ELI Reading Room

The English Language Institute's Reading Room has books, workbooks, leaflets, magazines, and a range of other reading material. Students can browse the bookshelves to select what appeals to them or use the list of recommended books and other readings from their Individualized Directed Learning (IDL) class.

In addition, the Reading Room has some tape recorders with headphones for use on tables or in the carrels and video stations. Video stations are also equipped with headphones so that students working in the Reading Room can be undisturbed. This room is designated a quiet room, so those who want to have a discussion are encouraged to move to the Video/Speaking Room.

The reading material includes:

Magazines:
Newsweek, People, National Geographic, Discover
Reference books:
dictionaries, thesauruses, atlases, college guides, Oregon State University information, etc.
Skill-building books and workbooks for:
vocabulary, grammar, reading, and more
Books for pleasure reading

We encourage students to come to the Reading Room during their free time to relax and read in a comfortable setting. They have the added advantage of help from Learning Center assistants if they have questions about what they are reading or working on--something they are not likely to get in the library or alone in their rooms.
