Co-Curricular Activities
At the ELI, we know that learning English means more than just going to classes and studying. Each term we plan a complete schedule of educational field trips, intramural sports, and cultural activities. By participating in these activities, the ELI students can meet Americans, practice their English, learn more about Oregon, and become more comfortable living in the United States.
The ELI Activities Assistant helps facilitate student involvement in community activities by offering personal consultations on suggested co-curricular activities and by providing extensive reference information on local events. (Click for current movies and music in Corvallis.) In addition, each term several campus and community activities are chosen as "targets" for ELI involvement. The ELI staff assist students in participating in these events; sometimes the ELI students help organize them. Participating in these selected activities helps the ELI students to better integrate into the larger community.
Conversant Program
ELI students who want to practice English conversation and learn more about American culture can participate in the ELI Conversant Program. The Conversant Program matches ELI students with conversation partners from the university or the community for weekly meetings throughout each term. Conversing pairs often participate in activities together while practicing English. Read more...
Orientation to American Higher Education
New ELI students meet for one hour every week for extended orientation to Oregon State University services, health and safety issues, and American culture.

Each term, the ELI sponsors an educational field trip for all the ELI students and their conversants to a place of interest in Oregon. Past destinations include the Oregon coast, the Portland Zoo, Willamette Pass Ski Area, and Mount Hood.
