District ESOL Coordinators

District ESOL Coordinators 2003-2004

The OELA-ELI Project is most fortunate to be working with five dedicated ESOL Coordinators. Each of them brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the project. If you have questions about what's happening in one of our five participating districts, here are the email addresses of the ESOL Coordinators for each district.

Corvallis: Dr. Marianne Clausing-Lee

Dr. Marianne Clausing-Lee has worked for the Corvallis School District for 30 years. She has been an Instructional Facilitator and classroom teacher in addition to her work as the ESOL Coordinator. Marianne holds an administrative license with a principal and superintendent endorsement. The coordination of the ESOL program includes overseeing 22 licensed and classified staff and 478 ELLs representing 50 different languages and dialects. Besides developing staff development opportunities for all ESL staff and regular classroom teachers, she has developed a district-wide database to help track ELLs and their progress. Her passion for serving this special population of students is greatly appreciated by staff and administrators. You can reach Marianne at marianne_clausing-lee@corvallis.k12.or.us

Springfield: Nancy Bray

Nancy Bray works as the Coordinator of the ELL Program half time and teaches ELLs at Maple Elementary School half time. Nancy has been with the Springfield School District since 1977. She worked as Resource Room and Title I Learning Specialist until 1999 when the district granted her a sabbatical to get her ESOL endorsement and write the district ELL Plan. As ELL Specialist, she serves as a resource to 10 ELL teachers, 18 bilingual educational assistants, and regular classroom teachers who serve 550 ELLs in the district. She also serves on the district Diversity Committee and Early Leavers Committee. Nancy is full of energy and enthusiasm for her work. Nancy can be reached at Nbray@sps.lane.edu

Lincoln County: Susan Roebber

2002 marks the third year for Susan Roebber as the ESL and Migrant Program Coordinator for the Lincoln County School District (LCSD). She also manages LCSD's Title VII Bilingual Program Planning and Implementation Grant. Susan holds a California Certificate of Bilingual Competence and worked in bilingual classrooms in California for ten years before moving to Newport ten years ago. While with the LCSD, she has taught in a Spanish Immersion classroom, in the Reading Recovery program through Title I, and has been involved in the development of the district's program for ELLs. Susan collaborates with other district programs and community agencies to provide a variety of services to ELLs and their families including two Spanish language preschool projects, parenting classes, informational meetings for parents, support and staff development for bilingual tutors, classroom teachers, and ESOL teachers. Susan also teaches ESOL endorsement classes in the district. Susan can be reached at Susan_Roebber@lincoln.k12.or.us

Greater Albany Public Schools: Dr. Jannice Link-Jobe

Dr. Jannice Link-Jobe is the Coordinator for the ELL and Title programs, including No Child Left Behind, in Greater Albany Public Schools. She has worked in Albany for six years. Under her leadership in 2003-2004, a new ELL program is being implemented in Albany. The program serves over 350 students and is supported by six full time teachers and ten full time assistants. It is an exciting time for all who are working on this very important endeavor.

Jann has a wide range of experience in the field of education. She taught high school chemistry and physics for 12 years and then became an administrator. In that capacity she has been a high school assistant principal, a middle school principal, an elementary school principal and a director of a teacher preparation program at the university level. Throughout her career, English Language Learners have always been one of her keen interests and one in which she has significant experience. She is a creative woman and also has a very strong background in research. Jann uses both of those skills to help support the development and implementation of new programs. Her resume suggests that considerable recognition for those skills has been given to her from both colleagues and professional organizations.

She is enthusiastic about Albany's new program. Jann has high hopes that it will provide a highly effective vehicle to the children who are learning English. Her goal for all ELL children is for them to be able to read, write, speak and listen in English with a proficiency that will enable them to succeed in all academic endeavors.

Jann can be reached at Jannice_Link-Jobe@albany.k12.or.us

Lebanon: Chris Boatwright

Chris Boatwright is the new ELL Teacher/Coordinator for the Lebanon Community Schools this year. She comes to the district with 20 years of teaching experience from kindergarten through 12th grade in both public education and private business. In addition to regular classroom teaching, she has taught ESL, music and Spanish. Her move to Oregon was prompted by a desire to be closer to family and to the ocean! Chris has lived abroad for extensive periods. Her experiences living among other cultures and other languages inspired her to further her education in ESL. Chris can be reached at Chris_Boatwright@lebanon.k12.or.us
