This is a public service ad at
http://www.seattletimes.com/mlk/photo/mlkoutdr.jpg, part of the Seattle
Times Martin Luther King, Jr. site. The Seattle Times is a
newspaper, and a public service ad is one that they put in the newspaper
for free.
Questions for discussion
- What is the difference between an answer and an assignment?
- Why would this be important for Dr. King?
- A "public service" ad doesn't sell anything, but it usually wants the
reader to do something. What do you think this ad is encouraging people
to do?
- There are many kinds of love, such as the love that parents have for
children, that a husband and wife can have for each other, that a person
can have for a country, etc. In English we have only one word, love. What
kind of love do you think they mean here?
- Look at the other ads at http://www.seattletimes.com/mlk/holiday/media.html. Which is your favorite? Why do you like it?
