Background
Since 2003, faculty at the English Language Institute at Oregon State University have been privileged to design high quality courses for teachers from Mexico sponsored by the Comisión México-Estados Unidos para el Intercambio Educativo y Cultural (COMEXUS) and the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP).
The Summer Institute is designed to refine English language skills and expand teaching strategies for a group of 10 – 20 teachers from Mexico. The training will focus on exploring current trends in ESL/EFL teaching practice (theory and methodology), assessing appropriate models of curriculum for the teachers’ context, creating strategies for delivering activities and refining language skills through classroom demonstrations, micro-teaching and project work, as well as cultural activities designed to acquaint participants with US life and history
The curriculum focuses on skills needed to improve English language teaching effectiveness, including the following:
- Development of English language skills
- Review of EFL methodology
- Technology familiarization
- Networking
- Testing and evaluation
- Leadership and community building
