The Reading Room

The English Language Institute's Reading Room has books, workbooks, leaflets, magazines, and a range of other reading material. The reading material includes magazines such as Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, People, National Geographic Traveler, and Glimpse. Reference books include dictionaries, thesauruses, atlases, college guides, Oregon State University information, etc. There are skill-building books and workbooks for: vocabulary, grammar, reading, and more books for pleasure reading. Students can browse the bookshelves to select what appeals to them or use the list of recommended books and other readings from their Individualized Directed Learning (IDL) class. In addition, the Reading Room has tape recorders with headphones and a video station equipped with headphones so that students working in the Reading Room can be undisturbed. This room is designated a quiet room, so those who want to have a discussion are encouraged to move to the Video/Speaking Room.
We encourage students to come to the Reading Room during Open Hours to relax and read or work in a comfortable setting. Learning Center assistants are available to help if students have questions about what they are reading or working on--help they are not likely to get in the library or alone in their rooms.
