OSU - ENGLISH ACCESS MICRO-SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Culture Presentation Feedback (for Access Students and Teachers)

Preplanning for Culture presentations

Ideas for Improvement

►Students and Teachers should have a list of topics, like

Worship, marriage, religion

Funerals, birth, jobs

Food, games, leisure time, likes & dislikes

Music, dance & literature (National Anthem)

(or choose from the list.)

►Present on Americans

Respect of the law, like traffic, the environment, & smoking

Taxes on sales (none in Oregon, more in D.C.)

►Work on presentation skills, like intro, body, conclusion

►Discuss politically correct statements – Don't speak poorly of your neighbors. Lebanon discussed Palestine in a negative way during the presentation.

►Share R.O.C.K. = Respect, Openness, Communication, & Kindness during presentations

►Time Management – present within time period.

►Teach them to work in Teams,

appeal to the emotions,

& add the personal touch – like personal stories

Summing up

Give Homework the night before to research the web site on the items that we will be seeing the next day.

Learn about the Subway and bus systems and then give activities to look up itineraries and choose D.C. places to visit.  Tell how to get there by bus and/or subway.

On Mt. Vernon create a scavenger hunt or another activity to do on the plantation.

Create a food adventure where participants explore Indian, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Chinese, & McDonald's food.

Practice ordering at McDonald's.
