Aim: Reading practice, background information.

 

Level: All levels

 

Time: 15 – 20

 

Preparation: Copies of KWL Chart and Venn Diagram

 

Procedure.

 

  1. Hand out copies of KWL Chart.
  2. Divide the class into groups of three or four.
  3. Tell the students something about what they are going to read. Example, “You’ll read about two famous people.
  4. Ask them to write, in the first column, about what they know about their person. Here students learn to produce some statements.
  5. In the second column ask students to write what they want to know about their person. The aim is to produce some questions.
  6. Hand out copies of the reading passage. Ask them to read it and write something about what they learned from the reading passage.
  7. Ask them whether they find answers to their questions or not.

 

8.   The second procedure is teacher draws the Venn Diagram on the board and asks two students to write some statements about the people in the passage.

9.   Hand out copies of the Venn Diagram. In the middle circle of the diagram, ask them to find out and write the similarities and the differences of the people they read about.
