You can now be fully admitted as an undergraduate to Oregon State
University with a TOEFL score of 71 (Internet-based, minimum 15 on each section), 197 (computer-based), 527
(paper-based) or 6.0 (IELTS).
If you are academically admissible but don't have the test score, you need to
successfully complete the ELI's Level 6 (our most advanced level)
with a recommendation from the ELI. Students must have an A or B in ELI courses to get a recommendation. A TOEFL of at least 500 improves the likelihood of an ELI recommendation. NEW! Some academically
admissible graduate students in the Conditional Admission Program
may also be eligible to use the ELI's recommendation in place of the
TOEFL requirement.
Conditional Admission Program
Conditional admission is a way for students whose English is
below the required level for full admission to Oregon State
University to begin taking classes. In general, the minimum TOEFL
score for full admission is 197
(computer) or 527 (paper). However, if you meet the University's
academic standards, but your TOEFL score is below the required
level, you may be admitted to the University under the Conditional
Admission Program (CAP).
Undergraduate students who meet the academic requirements for the
University and have at least a 133 computer or 450 paper TOEFL are
eligible for conditional admission to Oregon State University. The
minimum score for the conditional admission of graduate students is
173 (computer) or 500 (paper).
As a CAP student, you can enroll part-time in OSU and part-time
in the ELI. The number of hours of university classes you can take
depends on your TOEFL score and on your status as an undergraduate
or graduate student.
If you meet the academic standards for admission to OSU, here are
your options, according to your test score. Please be aware that
for admission to graduate studies, some OSU departments require a higher TOEFL than 213 computer-based
or 550 paper-based.

*Certain departments require higher test scores. (See
more information about requirements for OSU graduate
students)
Note that the deadlines for OSU
admission are considerably earlier than those for ELI admission
(mid-June for Fall term and mid-September for Winter term, for
example). See the OSU
International Admissions page for more information
about deadlines and admissions procedures.
ELI students can apply for CAP status for the term after they
arrive, but must still go through the OSU admissions process.
Special note: There is no new admission to the CAP program in Summer
term.
