satisfactory progress requirements for ph.d. students

  1. Maintain a 3.0 or better grade point average in all courses taken as a graduate student.
  2. Maintain a 3.0 grade point average or better in all courses included in the program of study in Economics. Note that the program cannot contain any courses with a grade below "C".
  3. Maintain a 3.0 grade point average or better in all required core theory and econometrics courses.
  4. Courses required for program of study must be taken for a grade, not S/U.
  5. Enroll in the one credit ECON 607 Faculty Seminar every year.9

In addition, Ph.D. students should:

By the end of the first year:

  1. Have taken ECON 523, 525, 526, 529, 570, 571, 611, 612 and 613.
  2. Have taken the Macroeconomics and Microeconomics Theory preliminary comprehensive examinations.10

By the end of the second year:

  2. Have filed a program of study with Graduate School before completion of your 5th quarter.
  3. Have completed ECON 627 and 628.

By the end of the third year:

  1. Have taken all 600 level field courses.
  2. Have completed field requirements.

9 Normal progress requires that the student enroll for the one credit ECON 607 Faculty Seminar every year. Successful completion of this course requires attendance of at least 75% of the Economics seminars that are scheduled for the academic year.

10 Core examinations can be taken twice. Any student who does not pass a core exam after two attempts will be dismissed from the graduate program in economics.
