financial assistanceGraduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) may be available for graduate students who have superior academic records. Normally, GTAs have a 9-month contract at 0.2 FTE (8 hours of work per week) or 0.4 FTE (16 hours of work per week). The GTA appointment includes a tuition waiver but students are required to pay student fees. Typical salaries range from about $5,837 to $12,384 per academic year. Summer teaching opportunities may be available. GTAs are available to master's students for a maximum of two years and to Ph.D. students for four years. Renewal depends upon satisfactory performance. (All assistantships are subject to the availability of funds.) The D. Barton DeLoach Distinguished Graduate Fellowship in Economics is awarded to an outstanding graduate student working toward a degree in Economics, Agricultural and Resource Economics, or Forest Resources. The fellowship should carry an annual stipend of $20,000. The D. Barton DeLoach Graduate Scholarship in Economics is awarded to an outstanding graduate student working toward a degree in Economics, Agricultural and Resource Economics, or Forest Resources. The Emery Castle Graduate Scholarship in Economics is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated excellence as a student and shows promise of performing well as a graduate student at OSU and as a career economist. Financial need may be considered, but is not a substitute for merit. The Outstanding Graduate Student Award is bestowed annually to the graduate student in the Department of Economics with the best academic performance in the previous year. The recipient of this award receives $500. The Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award is awarded to the graduate student in the Department of Economics with the best record of teaching or teaching assistance performed the previous year. The recipient of this award receives $500. The Carol and Victor Tremblay Award is awarded to all Ph.D. students in the Department of Economics who pass their core (theory) examinations on their first attempt. The recipient of this award receives $100. The University's Financial Aid & Scholarships Office administers student loans, grants, College Work Study, and general scholarship programs. International students may apply to the Office of International Programs for tuition scholarships. The amount of funds available for these programs varies from year to year. The Financial Aid & Scholarships Office also helps students in finding part-time employment. |
