Welcome to the web site of the Department of Economics at Oregon State University.

The Department offers Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. degrees in Economics and participates in the Masters in Public Policy (MPP) and Masters of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS) programs. The small size of our Department creates an environment in which students and faculty are in direct and close interaction, allowing students to obtain a rigorous and high quality education in Economics.

Department faculty include internationally recognized scholars who publish regularly in professional journals, serve on editorial and advisory boards, and consult with businesses, and government agencies at state, national and international levels. Faculty research has appeared in the leading academic journals such as Econometrica, American Economic Review, International Economic Review, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Economic Theory, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Monetary Economics, RAND Journal of Economics, and Journal of International Economics. Two of our faculty members are listed in Who's Who in Economics, a distinction conferred on only the top 4 percent of published economists in the world.

At the undergraduate level students get individualized advising and attention similar to that in a liberal arts college while enjoying the academic benefits of a department with a Ph.D. program. The program provides excellent training for graduate work in economics, public policy, law, and business. OSU Economics graduates also use their degrees to work professionally in the public (federal, state, and local government) and private (banking, consulting, retail, and corporate) sectors.

At the graduate level, in addition to core training in Macroeconomics, Microeconomics and Econometrics, students can concentrate on four fields of specialization: Econometrics, Industrial Organization, International Economics, and Resource and Environmental Economics. Graduates of our Masters and Ph.D. program have pursued diverse careers. Some have taken positions in academia and government agencies, while others have joined firms in the private sector.

We invite you to explore our web site to learn more about Economics at OSU.
