Roughstalk Bluegrass

COARC research on rough bluegrass has focused on uptake of plant nutrients and evaluation of plant growth regulators to increase seed yield. Rough bluegrass is considered a weed in Kentucky bluegrass seed fields, so evaluation of herbicides to control rough bluegrass have been conducted in rough bluegrass fields as well as Kentucky bluegrass.

Rough bluegrass is used in the southern part of the US for overseeding warm season grasses like burmudagrass. When the warm season grass goes dormant in the fall due to cooler weather, the rough bluegrass and perennial ryegrass blend maintains a green lawn until spring when it dies out as the warm season grass greens back up.
