100 Hispanic Women-Young Latinas
Leadership Institute
In 2002, 100 Hispanic Women, a nonprofit,
nonpartisan women’s organization with members from a wide range
of industries and interests, launched their Young Latinas
Leadership Institute with the mission to help young Latinas
acquire their higher education goals, explore business
opportunities, and develop leadership skills for their futures
as civic and corporate leaders. The Institute provides students
with annual scholarships of $1,000, leadership seminars,
mentors, and internships. Five Latinas are selected every year.
Applicants must be college freshmen at one of the City

Amigos Scholarship Foundation, Inc.
The Amigos Scholarship Foundation offers
scholarships of up to $1,500 to Hispanic residents of Sheboygan
County, Wisconsin planning to enter college or continue with
equivalent educational goals. Recipients must be willing to

serve as a spokesperson for higher education.

Medical Fund
Established in 1984, the BECA Foundation’s
purpose is to provide scholarships and community-based guidance
to Latino students pursuing a college education. Students must
be willing to share the benefits of their academic
accomplishments, both now and in the future, with their Latino
community. The BECA Foundation awards the Alice Newell Joslyn
Medical scholarships to students who plan to enter the
medical/healthcare profession and who live or attend college in
San Diego County at the time of application. Eligibility is
contingent upon applicants’ financial need, scholastic
determination, and community/cultural awareness. Scholarships
range from $1,000 to $2,000 per academic year and are awarded
for four years. Both high school seniors and current
undergraduate students are eligible to apply.

Established in 1984, the BECA Foundation’s

Scholarships to graduating students from a San Diego County high
school that plan to attend Pepperdine University. Scholarships
may be for up to $5,000 per academic year and are renewable
contingent upon the recipients’ full-time enrollment at
Pepperdine and satisfactory academic performance. Applicants
must be admitted to Pepperdine University and can pursue any
major.

Association (CCNMA)-Joel Garcia Memorial Scholarship
CCNMA’s Joel Garcia Memorial Scholarships are
awarded annually to qualified Latino students who are planning
to pursue a career in journalism. The scholarships, which range
from $500 to $2,000 per student, are based on several criteria,
including: the student's financial need, scholastic achievement,
commitment to the journalism field and awareness of issues of
concern to the Latino community. Applicants must attend or plan
to attend a college or university in California. California
residents can attend a school outside of California.

Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarship
Fund
The Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarship Fund
assists Latina students complete their undergraduate and
graduate education. The scholarships are available on a
competitive basis to continuing undergraduate and graduate
female college students of Latino background. Applicants must be
enrolled in accredited colleges or universities in one of the
following Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marina,
Monterey, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa
Cruz, Solano, or Sonoma. In addition, applicants must be
residents of the Bay area for at least two years at time of
application, and must have demonstrated leadership and
civic/community involvement. Awards are for $1,500. Recipients
must agree to volunteer a minimum of five hours in support of

Coalition for Nursing Careers in
California
The Coalition for Nursing Careers in
California is committed to achieving an adequate and diverse
nursing workforce for the state of California. In collaboration
with NurseWeek magazine and chooseNursing.com, the Coalition
offers scholarships for students in accredited nursing programs
across California in 2002, 2003, and 2004. The $2,000
scholarships will be awarded to five nursing students with
demonstrated financial need who best exhibit one or more of the
following attributes: academic achievement, health care
involvement, and/or enthusiasm or passion for nursing.
Applicants must not yet possess an RN license, must currently
attend an accredited associate or Bachelor’s nursing degree

Hispanic Public Relations Association
(HPRA)-Scholarship Program
HPRA’s scholarship program recognizes
outstanding undergraduate Hispanic students who are pursuing
careers in public relations and related communications fields.
The scholarship is open to California junior and senior college
students of Hispanic descent with at least a 2.7 cumulative GPA
and 3.0 GPA in their major subject. Preference is given to
students majoring in public relations, but students in
communication studies, journalism, advertising, or marketing
will be considered. Students majoring in other disciplines who

The National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts

The Ellen and Federico Jimenez Scholarship
Program will award twenty-five $2,000 scholarships to deserving

National Aeronautics Space
Administration (NASA)/Society of Mexican American Engineers and
Scientists (MAES)-Undergraduate Scholars Program
The NASA/MAES Undergraduate Scholars Program
is designed for students who will be attending, California State
University, Los Angeles, New Mexico State University, or the
University of Texas at San Antonio. Participants receive four
years of tuition up to $3,500 per year, a paid 10-week summer
internship at NASA or a NASA-approved facility, money for
traveling to and from the internship site (not to exceed $500),
and $1,000 to their university each year for school-related

New Jersey Mental Health Institute
(NJMHI)-Hispanic Higher Education Scholarship Program
In 2002, the New Jersey Mental Health
Institute announced efforts to address the nationwide lack of
access to and quality of mental health services for Hispanics by
providing scholarship awards to bilingual and bicultural
Hispanics through the organization’s new Hispanic Higher
Education Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund is
specifically targeted to undergraduate college students of
Hispanic background who are bilingual and interested in pursuing
a Master’s degree in Social Work from a New Jersey university.
Recipients are announced during NJMHI’s annual conference
traditionally held in May. The number and quantity of
scholarship awards depends on the contributions raised through
fundraising activities.

PacifiCare Foundation-Latino Health
Scholars Program
The PacifiCare Latino Health Scholars Program
is designed to increase the number of bilingual students who
choose to work in the health professions. PacifiCare grants 25
scholarships of $2000 each to high school seniors entering
community college, university, or an accredited technical
college majoring in one of the approved health care programs,
including nursing, medical interpretation, and public health.
The scholarships are funded by the PacifiCare Foundation and
allocated in the following states: California (10), Texas (5),
Arizona (3), Colorado (2), Nevada (2), Oklahoma (1), Washington
(1), and Oregon (1). Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal
permanent residents, must speak Spanish fluently, must be
accepted or enrolled in an accredited college or technical
school in a healthcare program, and must demonstrate a
commitment to a career in the healthcare field. Students
selected for the scholarships will be bilingual in English and
Spanish and will be encouraged to serve their communities and
use their bilingual skills upon graduation.

The TELACU Education Foundation offers several
scholarships to help build leadership in the greater East Los
Angeles community. The Arts Award is awarded to undergraduate
students majoring in fine arts, music, dance, drama, or theatre.

The TELACU Education Foundation offers several

Scholarship is given to two graduating high school seniors
interested in teaching careers. Students must live in an area

Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher
Education (TACHE)-Graduate Fellowships
The Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher
Education awards fellowships to Texas students pursuing graduate
studies. Two fellowships are given to students whose career
emphasis is on community college education. Two other
fellowships will be awarded to students whose study emphasis is
on university/post graduate education. The awards are for $2,000
each. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Youth Opportunities Foundation
The Youth Opportunities Foundation awards
scholarships to high school seniors graduating from California
schools. Scholarships are based on academic achievement.
