Regional Scholarships 

100 Hispanic Women-Young Latinas Leadership Institute 

In 2002, 100 Hispanic Women, a nonprofit, nonpartisan women’s organization with members from a wide range of industries and interests, launched their Young Latinas Leadership Institute with the mission to help young Latinas acquire their higher education goals, explore business opportunities, and develop leadership skills for their futures as civic and corporate leaders. The Institute provides students with annual scholarships of $1,000, leadership seminars, mentors, and internships. Five Latinas are selected every year. Applicants must be college freshmen at one of the City University of New York college campuses

Amigos Scholarship Foundation, Inc.

The Amigos Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships of up to $1,500 to Hispanic residents of Sheboygan County, Wisconsin planning to enter college or continue with equivalent educational goals. Recipients must be willing to recruit other Hispanics to take part in this scholarship and serve as a spokesperson for higher education.

Bar Association of San Francisco-Bay Area Minority Law Scholarship

The Bar Association of San Francisco awards the Bay Area Minority Law Scholarship to minority students accepted into one of the following northern California law schools: Boalt School of Law at UC Berkeley, King Hall School of Law at UC Davis, Golden Gate University School of Law, UC Hastings College of the Law, University of San Francisco School of Law, Santa Clara University School of Law, Stanford Law School, or McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific.

BECA Foundation-Alice Newell Joslyn Medical Fund

Established in 1984, the BECA Foundation’s purpose is to provide scholarships and community-based guidance to Latino students pursuing a college education. Students must be willing to share the benefits of their academic accomplishments, both now and in the future, with their Latino community. The BECA Foundation awards the Alice Newell Joslyn Medical scholarships to students who plan to enter the medical/healthcare profession and who live or attend college in San Diego County at the time of application. Eligibility is contingent upon applicants’ financial need, scholastic determination, and community/cultural awareness. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,000 per academic year and are awarded for four years. Both high school seniors and current undergraduate students are eligible to apply.

BECA Foundation-Pepperdine University Scholarships 

Established in 1984, the BECA Foundation’s purpose is to provide scholarships and community-based guidance to Latino students pursuing a college education. Students must be willing to share the benefits of their academic accomplishments, both now and in the future, with their Latino community. The BECA Foundation awards the Pepperdine University Scholarships to graduating students from a San Diego County high school that plan to attend Pepperdine University. Scholarships may be for up to $5,000 per academic year and are renewable contingent upon the recipients’ full-time enrollment at Pepperdine and satisfactory academic performance. Applicants must be admitted to Pepperdine University and can pursue any major.

California Chicano News Media Association (CCNMA)-Joel Garcia Memorial Scholarship

CCNMA’s Joel Garcia Memorial Scholarships are awarded annually to qualified Latino students who are planning to pursue a career in journalism. The scholarships, which range from $500 to $2,000 per student, are based on several criteria, including: the student's financial need, scholastic achievement, commitment to the journalism field and awareness of issues of concern to the Latino community. Applicants must attend or plan to attend a college or university in California. California residents can attend a school outside of California.

Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarship Fund

The Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarship Fund assists Latina students complete their undergraduate and graduate education. The scholarships are available on a competitive basis to continuing undergraduate and graduate female college students of Latino background. Applicants must be enrolled in accredited colleges or universities in one of the following Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marina, Monterey, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, or Sonoma. In addition, applicants must be residents of the Bay area for at least two years at time of application, and must have demonstrated leadership and civic/community involvement. Awards are for $1,500. Recipients must agree to volunteer a minimum of five hours in support of the Chicana/Latina Foundation.

Coalition for Nursing Careers in California

The Coalition for Nursing Careers in California is committed to achieving an adequate and diverse nursing workforce for the state of California. In collaboration with NurseWeek magazine and chooseNursing.com, the Coalition offers scholarships for students in accredited nursing programs across California in 2002, 2003, and 2004. The $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to five nursing students with demonstrated financial need who best exhibit one or more of the following attributes: academic achievement, health care involvement, and/or enthusiasm or passion for nursing. Applicants must not yet possess an RN license, must currently attend an accredited associate or Bachelor’s nursing degree program in California, and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

Cuban American Scholarship Fund

The Cuban American Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to high school seniors and undergraduate students of Cuban descent. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or better and must attend a university in California on a full-time basis. Awards range from $500 to $2,000.

Hispanic Education Foundation, Inc.

The Hispanic Education Foundation awards scholarships to assist deserving individuals who choose to continue their education. To be eligible, applicants must be graduates of the St. Vrain Valley School District and must be accepted at an accredited college, university, or vocational school prior to receiving the scholarship award. Non-traditional students are encouraged to apply.

Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA)-Scholarship Program

HPRA’s scholarship program recognizes outstanding undergraduate Hispanic students who are pursuing careers in public relations and related communications fields. The scholarship is open to California junior and senior college students of Hispanic descent with at least a 2.7 cumulative GPA and 3.0 GPA in their major subject. Preference is given to students majoring in public relations, but students in communication studies, journalism, advertising, or marketing will be considered. Students majoring in other disciplines who have a desire to work in the public relations industry are invited to apply.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)/California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB)-Hispanic Excellence Scholarship Fund Program

The Hispanic Excellence Scholarship Fund is a California State University Bakersfield’s (CSUB) initiative to increase access to a college education for academically sound, needy students with leadership potential from high schools within CSUB service areas of Kern, Kings, Inyo, and Mono Counties. Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)/Little Village Chamber of Commerce (LVVC)-Ambassadors Scholarship Program

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund in conjunction with the Little Village Chamber of Commerce provides scholarships of $2,000 and up for entering and continuing undergraduate and graduate students from the Little Village Community who are pursuing a degree in business, finance, marketing, or other related fields, and who will be enrolled full-time in the fall. Through this scholarship program, the Chamber seeks to support education to nurture the next generation of leaders who are committed to the growth of its community. Applicants must be full-time students with a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)/National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts (NHFA)-Scholarship Program

The National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts seeks to continue the expansion of opportunities for Hispanic youth in the media, arts, and communications industry through its scholarship program, which is administered by the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. Applicants must be full-time graduate students attending one of the following universities: Columbia University School of the Arts, Harvard University, New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Northwestern University (drama department), the University of California at Los Angeles, the University of Southern California, the University of Texas at Austin Communications School, or Yale University (drama department). Applicants must be pursuing a Master’s degree in entertainment-related fields and must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Awards are for $2,500.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)/South Texas-Scholarship Program

In a partnership dedicated to helping outstanding and deserving Hispanics achieve a higher education, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, L&F Distributors in McAllen and South Texas, and Distributors in Laredo, Texas offer scholarships to community college students, college undergraduates, and graduate students of Hispanic background who have a permanent address in one of the participating South Texas counties. Awards range from $1,000 to $2,500.

In conjunction with Toyota de Puerto Rico Corporation, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for graduating high school seniors in Puerto Rico who will enter their first year of college in the fall at a university in Puerto Rico. Awards are for $2,500.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)/Toyota-Scholarship Program

Through the longstanding partnership with Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., the Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers scholarships of $5,000 to outstanding Latino entering freshmen students at selected universities with the following majors: business administration, industrial engineering, marketing, computer science, international relations, or mechanical engineering. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents with at least a 3.0 GPA. In addition, applicants must be permanent residents of the greater Houston or Los Angeles areas and must be attending one of the following colleges: the University of Southern California, California State Polytechnic University-Pomona, the University of Texas at Austin, or Texas A & M University at College Station.

Jose Marti Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund

The Jose Marti Scholarship is awarded to Hispanic residents of Florida beginning undergraduate or graduate studies at a Florida college. Applicants must be enrolled full-time and have a 3.0 GPA or better. The $2,000 scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Scholarships are awarded for four years.

La Raza Lawyers Scholarship Program

Latina Leadership Network (LLN)-Scholarship Program

The Latina Leadership Network (LLN) of the California Community Colleges awards a minimum of five scholarships of $500 to Latina students attending California community colleges. Scholarship recipients are honored at the Latina Leadership Network’s annual conference. Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, must have 24 units of college work, and must be enrolled in a California community college.

Latin American Educational Foundation Scholarships

The Latin American Educational Foundation awards scholarships to Hispanic residents of Colorado who have demonstrated a commitment to the Hispanic community. Awards are based on academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and must be involved in the Hispanic community. Recipients are required to fulfill 10 hours of community service during year of funding.

Latino College Expo, Inc.  

The Latino College Expo awards scholarships to high school seniors in the tri-state area.  Each year, four winners receive $500 towards their academic and personal needs. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, must be high school seniors planning to attend a college or university in the fall on a full-time basis, and must possess a minimum four year high school average of 85% and 1000+ SAT scores.

Maxwell House Coffee-Minority Scholarship

Maxwell House Coffee awards scholarships to minority high school seniors and undergraduate students from New York, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, Baltimore, or Newark. Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF)-Ellen and Federico Jimenez Scholarship

The Ellen and Federico Jimenez Scholarship Program will award twenty-five $2,000 scholarships to deserving Latino college students who are ineligible to receive federal and/or state financial aid and who have a demonstrated commitment to serving the Latino community in the United States. Students who have been accepted to a community college or state university in California or Texas (except the University of California and the University of Texas) and will be enrolled full-time are eligible to apply.

National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA)/Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES)-Undergraduate Scholars Program

The NASA/MAES Undergraduate Scholars Program is designed for students who will be attending, California State University, Los Angeles, New Mexico State University, or the University of Texas at San Antonio. Participants receive four years of tuition up to $3,500 per year, a paid 10-week summer internship at NASA or a NASA-approved facility, money for traveling to and from the internship site (not to exceed $500), and $1,000 to their university each year for school-related activities. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, active MAES members (beginning first semester/quarter of freshman year) with a minimum 3.0 GPA and majoring in a NASA-related discipline (mathematics, science, engineering, or computers).

New Jersey Mental Health Institute (NJMHI)-Hispanic Higher Education Scholarship Program

In 2002, the New Jersey Mental Health Institute announced efforts to address the nationwide lack of access to and quality of mental health services for Hispanics by providing scholarship awards to bilingual and bicultural Hispanics through the organization’s new Hispanic Higher Education Scholarship Fund.  The scholarship fund is specifically targeted to undergraduate college students of Hispanic background who are bilingual and interested in pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work from a New Jersey university.  Recipients are announced during NJMHI’s annual conference traditionally held in May. The number and quantity of scholarship awards depends on the contributions raised through fundraising activities.

PacifiCare Foundation-Latino Health Scholars Program

The PacifiCare Latino Health Scholars Program is designed to increase the number of bilingual students who choose to work in the health professions. PacifiCare grants 25 scholarships of $2000 each to high school seniors entering community college, university, or an accredited technical college majoring in one of the approved health care programs, including nursing, medical interpretation, and public health. The scholarships are funded by the PacifiCare Foundation and allocated in the following states: California (10), Texas (5), Arizona (3), Colorado (2), Nevada (2), Oklahoma (1), Washington (1), and Oregon (1). Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, must speak Spanish fluently, must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited college or technical school in a healthcare program, and must demonstrate a commitment to a career in the healthcare field. Students selected for the scholarships will be bilingual in English and Spanish and will be encouraged to serve their communities and use their bilingual skills upon graduation.

Pacific Gas & Electric Company-Hispanic Employees Association Scholarship Fund

The Golden Gate chapter of PG&E’s Hispanic Employees Association offers scholarships to San Francisco Bay Area high school students who plan to attend college in the fall. Students need no connection to PG&E to receive a scholarship. Students of all ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Selection is based on academic achievement, community service, and leadership.

The TELACU Education Foundation offers several scholarships to help build leadership in the greater East Los Angeles community. The Arts Award is awarded to undergraduate students majoring in fine arts, music, dance, drama, or theatre. Applicants must be permanent residents of unincorporated East Los Angeles, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Huntington Park, City of Los Angeles, Montebello, Monterey Park, South Gate, Santa Ana, or Pico Rivera. TELACU Education Foundation-Cesar Chavez Memorial Leadership Award

The TELACU Education Foundation offers several scholarships to help build leadership in the greater East Los Angeles community. The TELACU Cesar Chavez Memorial Leadership Award is awarded to undergraduate students who exhibit outstanding leadership abilities as evidenced by academic accomplishments and community service activities. Applicants must be permanent residents of unincorporated East Los Angeles, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Huntington Park, City of Los Angeles, Montebello, Monterey Park, South Gate, Santa Ana, or Pico Rivera. In addition, students must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents and first-generation college students with a 2.5 GPA from a low-income family. TELACU Education Foundation-David C. Lizarraga Fellowships

The TELACU Education Foundation offers several scholarships to help build leadership in the greater East Los Angeles community. The Lizzaraga Fellowships are awarded to graduate students who best demonstrate the potential to be community leaders and have exhibited an interest and ability in helping to improve their community through education and economic empowerment. Applicants must be permanent residents of unincorporated East Los Angeles, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Huntington Park, City of Los Angeles, Montebello, Monterey Park, South Gate, Santa Ana, or Pico Rivera. In addition, students must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents and first-generation college students with a 2.5 GPA from a low-income family. Awards must be applied to one of TELACU’s participating schools in the greater Los Angeles area.

TELACU Education Foundation-Edison International Scholarship

The TELACU Education Foundation offers several scholarships to help build leadership in the greater East Los Angeles community. Each year, the Edison International Scholarship is given to two graduating high school seniors interested in teaching careers. Students must live in an area serviced by Edison.

Applicants must also be permanent residents of unincorporated East Los Angeles, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Huntington Park, City of Los Angeles, Montebello, Monterey Park, South Gate, Santa Ana, or Pico Rivera. In addition, students must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents and first-generation college students with a 2.5 GPA from a low-income family. Awards must be applied to one of TELACU’s participating schools in the greater Los Angeles area.

TELACU Education Foundation-Engineering Award

The TELACU Education Foundation offers several scholarships to help build leadership in the greater East Los Angeles community. The Engineering Award is given to undergraduate students majoring in computer science, quantitative business, chemistry, or engineering. Students must have already completed a minimum of 12 college credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in order to apply. Applicants must also be permanent residents of unincorporated East Los Angeles, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Huntington Park, City of Los Angeles, Montebello, Monterey Park, South Gate, Santa Ana, or Pico Rivera.  In addition, students must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents and first-generation college students from a low-income family. Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (TACHE)-Graduate Fellowships

The Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education awards fellowships to Texas students pursuing graduate studies. Two fellowships are given to students whose career emphasis is on community college education. Two other fellowships will be awarded to students whose study emphasis is on university/post graduate education. The awards are for $2,000 each. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Youth Opportunities Foundation

The Youth Opportunities Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors graduating from California schools. Scholarships are based on academic achievement. Applicants must be Hispanic students active in their school or community with a demonstrated financial need. Awards range from $200 to $500.
