OSU STU EMP 104-04: International Students - End of Job

Student Employment Policy & Procedure Manual
Section 100: Undergraduate Student
Effective: 03/01/1997
Revised: 08/01/2005

Your student employment position will come to an end at some point.  There are two ways that can occur: voluntary separation, or involuntary separation.  The guidelines below are meant to assist you during that transition, and to complete your experience in a positive setting.

104-04a   Voluntary Separation

Defined:  The student employee leaves due to the end of the employment availability or voluntarily terminates employment with sufficient notice to the employer (generally two weeks notice is expected).

The employee should expect:

  1. Exit interview with the employer to debrief the experience.
  2. Final written work performance summary
  3. Instruction on how to handle payroll issues

Students should obtain letter(s) of reference and other pertinent information at this time.  Career Services can help students create and enhance their portfolio of experience while at OSU.

104-04b   Involuntary Separation

Defined:  The student employee is required to leave by the employer.  NOTE:  Students are “at will” employees and therefore can be terminated at the discretion of the employer.

The employee should expect:

  1. Exit interview with the employer to debrief the experience.
  2. Final written work performance summary.
  3. Instruction on how to handle payroll issues.
  4. Information about the Grievance Procedure.
