Philosophy

A student at OSU is by definition, a person who is academically enrolled and whose primary efforts are directed toward obtaining a degree.  Therefore, OSU views student employees as students first, and their employment as secondary to their academic endeavors.  We would encourage all employers to be cognizant of the student’s academic pursuits, and whenever possible to consider prioritizing their academics when scheduling work shifts.

Employers have the opportunity to greatly influence the employability of students. Some skill sets that would be helpful to develop during their employment are teamwork, promptness, reliability, receptiveness to feedback, adaptability, appropriate dress and conduct, customer service, communications skills, and any other areas that will enhance their work place skills.

Policy

Oregon State University strives to provide part-time employment to as many students as possible.  Student employment opportunities will be determined by the workload requirements of the various departments/units and on the availability of funds.  Equal Employment Opportunity guidelines must be followed for all student employment.
