All Sections
Effective: 03/01/1997
Revised: 08/01/2005
The following information identifies the different types of Student Employment offered at OSU. This manual only covers Student Employment and distinguishes it from other types of employment.
There are three types of student employment:
Other types of employment available to students not covered in the STU EMP manual include:
Student employment opportunities offered to academically enrolled student by OSU, whether the job is on or off the main campus. Students are OSU student employees and earn an hourly wage paid to them through the OSU Payroll Office by OSU departmental funds.
Student employment opportunities that are similar to regular student employment, except part of the funding is provided by the Federal Government. Only students who are determined eligible for this type of employment can obtain work study student employment. To determine a student’s eligibility for FWS, the student must apply for federal financial aid through the Free Application For Student Aid Form (FAFSA). If the student is eligible, they will receive an award letter defining the amount of Federal Work Study money awarded to them. Employment regulations and guidelines for FWS differ from those for regular-student employment.
Student employment opportunities for students who are enrolled at institutions outside of the Oregon University System (OUS). These students could be high school student or students enrolled at another college or university.
These are contract positions made by appointment through the Office of Human Resources for non-classified and non-student employment. They include faculty, professional faculty, and graduate students who have secured a Graduate Assistantship or Graduate Research Assistantship. The STU EMP manual does not cover this type of employment; therefore, graduate students seeking Graduate Assistantships should contact their academic department for specific information. Questions and assistance may also be obtained from the Graduate School coordinator at (541) 737-4881.
Employment opportunities available to anyone looking for a job and usually published in the classified section of local newspapers, company websites or internet websites such Monster.com. Some of these jobs will also be listed in Beaver Recruiting as Off Campus Jobs. The fact that someone is a student may be unrelated to this type employment in the private sector.
After reviewing the brief descriptions of Student Employment, students should go to the appropriate section in this manual to determine their eligibility status. Not all students are eligible for every type of student employment offered at OSU. A student’s eligibility status is determined by several factors:
Good luck with your pursuit of student employment!
