Procurement and Contract Services
Section 500: Other Contracts
Effective:
04/27/2005
To provide information regarding the mechanisms used for establishing roles and responsibilities between OSU departments when cooperating on a venture.
University employees who wish to establish a cooperative program with another University department.
Interdepartmental agreements (any agreement between two or more departments of OSU) are typically less formalized than contracts with outside private entities. The key risks in these agreements are in ambiguity and disagreements over the intent. While there is no “legal” risk in these agreements, it is important that such agreements are written with enough detail to clearly express the roles and responsibilities that each department will adhere to.
Interdepartmental agreements will be written in a manner that clearly establishes the roles, responsibilities and obligations of the parties involved. Any financial obligations should be clearly detailed including amounts and terms.
Interagency agreements are not required to be processed and signed through the Contracts Office; however, the Contracts Office will help draft or provide input on these agreements as requested.
