To ensure that acquisitions of radioactive material and radiation machines do not violate state rules or provisions of OSU’s radioactive materials license.
All employees.
Prior approval from OSU Radiation Safety via phone or written request is required for the procurement of any radioactive material or radiation-producing machine, regardless of whether by purchase, gift, loan, transfer, or other means. Details can be found in Section 6.4 Acquisition - Transfer of the OSU Radiation Safety Manual. Procurement & Construction Contracting will verify Radiation Safety approval of all procurements of radioactive material or radiation producing machines prior to placing an order.
Most procurements of radioactive material are radiolabeled chemicals for use as tracers in laboratories. The following is a “hot list” of other items that incorporate radioactive material or produce radiation, and also require prior approval of Radiation Safety:
