Codriophorus mollis (Cardot) Bednarek-Ochyra & Ochyra

HOME         BACK TO KEY

Synonym: Racomitrium mollis Cardot

Special status: NONE

Recognition: This species shares a lingulate leaf shape with Codriophorus acicularis and Codriophorus depressus. It differs from each of these in the very round, often cucullate, leaf tip. It has a shorter costa than these two, only to about 3/4 of the leaf length in contrast to the other species where the costa reaches the leaf tip. It should be fairly easy to recognize in the field once seen under a microscope.

Distribution: Although only one Oregon record, from Klamath County, exists at present, it will probably turn up occasionally at high elevations in the Cascades and other parts of the state.

Comments: Once the genus is recognized, this species will be easily identified by hand lens because of the cucullate apex on most leaves.
