Faculty Project Proposal Summary
Calendar Year 2014 Program
Faculty Name & Department/School: Dr. Jonathan Hurst, College of Engineering, MIME Department
Research Project Title: ATRIAS 2.1 Electronics
Project Overview: ATRIAS is currently operational and walking in the laboratory. However, there are a number of features not yet implemented, which we wish to complete in the coming year. In addition, as with any complex machine, there are bugs and breakages. We seek an undergraduate research assistant to implement new features and troubleshoot the existing electronics that control ATRIAS. Students should have some familiarity with some or all of the following: programming microcontrollers, C/C++, Linux, and sensors such as optical encoders. Students will work closely with our current senior electrical engineering undergraduate research assistant over the course of this year to gain expertise.
What skills will students obtain in this project? Implementation and troubleshooting of lowlevel software and robot electronics.
Student research tasks: Facilitating experiments on ATRIAS, finding robust solutions to issues with electronics and sensors.
Number of hours per week expected of student: at least 10 hours
