Faculty Project Proposal Summary
Calendar Year 2014 Program
Faculty Name & Department/School:
Dr. Javier Calvo-Amodio, MIME, College of Engineering
Research Project Title: A Systemic Study on Cost Assessment of a Steel Processing Manufacturing System
Project Overview: Behaviors inside a manufacturing system is complicated because many factors will participate in affecting the cost of production. This study is going to use system engineering approaches to analyze the interrelations of those factors and describe the behaviors with interaction structure archetypes. The undergraduate researcher will help build the cost model of an Oregon-based manufacturer and conduct some data analysis.
What skills will students obtain in this project?
Student will learn systems modeling techniques, data analysis methods, lean concepts, and key concepts of sustainable manufacturing.
Student research tasks:
The undergraduate will assist graduate students with onsite data collection, systems modeling and simulation, and data analysis.
Number of hours per week expected of student: 10
