URSA Engage Program 2013
Position Descriptions for Students to Apply For
Faculty Name & Department/School:
Dr. Daniel Renjewski (MIME / CoE)
Research Project Title:
Watch your step! – control strategies for bipedal walking
Project Overview:
Steady state bipedal walking in humans and animals can be described using simple mathematical models. However, for implementation on a robot strategies have to be developed to cope with rough terrain. This project aims at extending the model to generate robust locomotion on uncertain terrain.
What skills will students obtain in this project?
- Modeling and simulation of system dynamics
- Programming, data analysis and visualisation in MATLAB
We expect the student to be experienced in general programming and to have good knowledge of Newtonian mechanics
Student research tasks:
- Extend the model code for a dedicated environment scenario
- Simulate the model behavior
- Propose control strategies to improve performance
Period of work - Spring and Fall
Number of hours per week expected of student: 10
Preferred Faculty Contact Information:
- office hours by appointment
