Research Project Title: Maternal physical activity and birth outcomes:  systematic review


Project Overview: 
Physical activity during pregnancy has many known benefits:  reduced risks of gestational diabetes, pregnancy-induced hypertension, neonatal hypoglycemia, and macrosomia.  Less conclusive are effects of exercise on maternal birth outcomes, such as cesarean or labor duration.  This project will review systematically the published literature on this topic.  A peer-reviewed publication is anticipated; the student will be invited to be an author provided standard authorship criteria are met.

Student research tasks: 

Systematic review methods dictate that 2 researchers independently perform the following tasks: 

The student identified for this project will perform these tasks, under the direction of Dr. Bovbjerg, but independently.  The student will then assist with manuscript preparation and submission.


Period of work - Spring and Fall


Number of hours per week expected of student:   5
