Research Interests
My career has been spent making cast & welded sculpture. The work from 1974 to 1987 is abstract. The years from1988 to the present have been spent working with the figure. The smaller figurative pieces are, by and large, parodies. The larger commissioned figurative work is documentation of the kinds of activities found in and around the building where the sculpture is sited.
Teaching
A large part of our responsibility as teachers is to prepare our students for a successful career in the visual arts. I have come, over the years, to believe the most effective way of achieving this is the following: to help each student to find their voice; to develop within them a thirst for excellence; to demonstrate the value of a professional work ethic; to provide them with a solid technical grounding in sculpture processes; and, finally, encourage them to sustain a child’s wonder and curiosity about the world around them.
