I approach my classes with the assumption that we are all in the room to learn and I include myself in that assumption. I believe that the questions asked by a student need to be answered, and that the most integrated answers generally come from the students’ own effort and exploration. My role is to mentor my students in the language and vocabulary of artists and the properties and uses of materials, as well as to inculcate strategies for the recognition and development of ideas.
I also see it as my charge to introduce students to the work of others who have made significant art while connecting idea to form and to foster a strong critical facility in each individual so that they are prepared for the rigors of a life in art.
